NO SEX PLEASE WE’RE MEDICAL STUDENTS

Medical students have fewer sexual partners at university than most other students, according to a poll by website studentbeans.com. The poll of 4,656 student ranked those studying medicine at 30th out of the 43 having an average of 3.43 sexual partners since starting university. Those studying economics came out top with an average of 4.88 partners per student.

GP TRAINEE BECOMES BMA JUNIOR DOCTORS LEADER

London based GP trainee Ben Molyneux has been elected to lead the BMA’s junior doctors committee. He will take over from longstanding chair Tom Dolphin when he steps down at the end of this month. ST2 Kitty Mohan has been elected as JDC vice-chair.

BRITISH PUBLIC LACK ANATOMICAL AWARENESS

The public have a lack of knowledge on the human anatomy and a worrying ignorance of body basics, according to a survery comissioned by the Museum of London. The survey of 2,000 people found that 50% were unable to correctly identify the location of their heart and 62% were unable to explain the purpose of the pancreas.

1000 SUICIDES FROM RECESSION

1000 people have committed suicide due to the 2008-2010 economic recession in the UK, according to a report published on BMJ. com. The authors calculated the number of excess suicides attributable to the financial crisis by looking at the total number which were over and above historical trends. It found that suicides rose 8% among men and 9% among women.
